Their passengers will no longer have to be anxious for the quantities of liquids they carry to their luggage. Throughout the European Union are preparing to abolish the 100 ml limit for liquids in passenger luggage. But there is a “thorn”.

The restriction was to be abolished last summer, but a decision kept it in force.

Now, airports with advanced scanners will allow passengers to carry wine, oil, aroma and other liquids in pots of up to two liters

Airports involved include popular destinations such as Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam and Milan, and more are expected to be added.

The exceptions

Although many large airports already have the advanced scanners, the same is not true for everything, including the Heathrow of London. The cost of installing technology there is estimated at £ 1.04 billion.

Airports will not be obliged to adopt the new technology, but the decision will belong to each airport separately.

As a result, the new regulation may be confusing passengers departing from the airport with new scanners, but returning from an airport that does not have them. In this case, only 100 ml of fluids will be permitted again on hand luggage during return flight.

By tablet on the luggage

Scanners use computed tomography (CT) to control luggage more accurately.

Their introduction also means that passengers will no longer have to remove objects from their luggage such as laptops and tablets, thus simplifying the safety check process.

This significant change was initially reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera and was confirmed by the European Commission, while the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) is expected to officially give the “green light” soon.

European Commission spokesman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen told the Independent that they are awaiting the confirmation of the “next days” decision.

“Once a manufacturer’s equipment passes the tests and receives approval from the ECAC, it can take the EU stamp, which allows fluid control over 100 ml. After approval, the equipment can be installed and used at airports, ”reads.

Based on the applicable rules, luggage liquids must be transferred to containers that do not exceed 100 ml, with some exceptions for children’s products and medicines. Travelers are recommended to control the applicable regulations for both the departure and the return airport before the trip.
