After being a constant target of criticism of physical form in recent seasons, Luka Doncic decided to change. And the turn started shortly after the Los Angeles Lakers eliminated in the 2025 playoffs. Determined to recover the best physical and technical level, the Slovenian star began a radical restructuring process, which involved complete basketball pause, controlled diet and high intensity training. The transformation was detailed by the magazine Men’s Health And it can be decisive for the player’s future in the NBA.
Strategic stop: 30 days without ball in hand
Less than a day after the elimination of Lakers, Doncic contacted his agent, Lara Beth Seger, asking for the triggering of her personal support group, “Team Luka” – composed by coach Anze Macek, physiotherapist Javier Barrio and nutritionist Lucia Alwardros. On the recommendation of the team, Luka spent 30 days without playing a basketball ball, with exclusive focus on fitness.
“It was a huge challenge to be so long without playing,” admitted the player. “But I understood that my body needed this break.”
Intermittent fasting and restricted menu
The main change came in food. Doncic joined the intermittent fasting in model 16: 8-fasting from 8:30 pm to noon the next day. The first training of the day, even, still is fasting. In addition, the athlete followed a gluten -free diet with low sugar and focus on natural and protein -rich foods – at least 250 grams of daily protein combined with almond milk shakes and more vegetables on the plate. On Sundays, he has a small window of food flexibility.

Intensified physical workouts
With the basketball temporarily aside, physical training gained protagonism. In sessions recorded in Croatia, Doncic appears in explosion exercises, such as fast races, obstacle circuits and minibators use for muscle resistance. The idea, according to Macek, is to prepare the body to support the intensity of the NBA season without losing physical performance throughout the year.
Adaptation to maintain the routine during the season
The biggest challenge, according to Javier Barrio, will be to maintain food discipline and training during the game marathon and travel of the regular season. The structure will be adjusted, but the base of the plan must be maintained to ensure long -term results.
Eye on MVP and in new contract
Outside the courts, Doncic also has big news ahead. On August 2, he becomes eligible to sign a four -year contractual extension with Lakers – a movement that should be made official in the coming days. Lighter, faster and renewed focus, Luka arrives at the 2025-26 season as one of the top names in the MVP award race.
Main changes in Luka Doncic’s routine
- Intermittent Fasting (from 20h30 to 12h the next day)
- Gluten -free diet with high protein intake
- 1 month break without playing basketball
