The defense of Army Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid filed, on Tuesday (29) the final allegations to the Supreme Court (STF), requesting the acquittal of the military of accusations of involvement in an attempted coup.

Defendant alongside former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and seven other figures from the former government’s political and military core, Cid was the first to present a final demonstration for signed award-winning plea with the Federal Police.

In the defense play, the military lawyers claim that there is no evidence that he has participated or supported any scam plan. “There is not, throughout the set of evidence gathered in the file, a single concrete element that proves that Mauro Cid has practiced, instigated or even compatious with acts of institutional rupture,” they say.

Mauro Cid calls for acquittal in the Supreme Court and accuses PGR of sustaining “narratives”

According to the defense, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) acted with “excess”, failing to play its institutional role to become “narrative promoter.” The accusation, in the lawyers’ view, ignores testimonials from military authorities who would attest to ICD’s disciplined conduct and support a version based only on conjectures.

What the accusation says

The PGR presented last week its final opinion, the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, maintained that the attempted coup was real and did not materialize just because it did not have the formal support of the Armed Forces.

According to Gonet, there was a systematic attempt to co -opt the army and aeronautics commands, using pressure, misinformation and virtual attacks on officers who refused to join the plan.

“The commitment to co-opt for them has assumed several forms, involving virtual attacks on the high-patent military who have finally maintained the armed forces faithful to the democratic vocation that the Constitution attributed to them,” he said.

In the evaluation of the PGR, there was a concrete presentation of an institutional rupture plan by the “largest commander of the Armed Forces (the President of the Republic) and the Minister of Defense”.

And now?

With the opinion of the PGR and the CID manifestation already filed, the Supreme Court now opens the deadline for the final allegations of the other seven defendants. The schedule, according to the Court, will not be interrupted by the recess of the judiciary, as one of the accused, General Walter Braga Netto, is pre-prisoner pre-emptively.
