Italian deputy Angelo Bonelli of the Green Alliance and left coalition claims that he was responsible for delivering to the authorities the address in which Brazilian deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) was hosted in Rome. The information was released by the parliamentarian himself on social networks and confirmed after the one, carried out on Tuesday afternoon (29) by local police.
According to Bonelli, he received the information that the parliamentarian had been seen in the Aurelio neighborhood and warned the Italian authorities. About two hours later, agents went to the address informed and found Zambelli in an apartment. She was taken to a police station, where she will remain in custody until the Italian court defines, in the next 48 hours, if it will be extradited, released or placed under house arrest.
Who is the parliamentarian
Angelo Bonelli, 62, is a deputy in the House of Representatives of Italy for the Green and Left Alliance coalition, made up of environmental and leftist parties. Born in Rome, he was elected in 2022 by the Imola district, in the Emilia-Romanha region, and currently acts as Secretary of the Environment Commission.

Known for his ecological militancy and firm positions against the advance of far-right in Europe, Bonelli has stood out for charging the Italian government more transparency and commitment to international cooperation in cases involving democratic violations.
Public pressure and speech in Parliament
Bonelli’s performance against the Brazilian parliamentarian in the case is not recent. In June, he had already filed a formal interpellation to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice and the interior of Italy, charging an official position on the case. He asked that, even through Interpol, to ensure compliance with the bilateral extradition treaty between the two countries.
On July 16, the deputy climbed the podium of Parliament to criticize the absence of actions of the Italian government. In a blunt speech, Bonelli stated:

“I consider it inadmissible to use Italian citizenship to declare themselves untouchable. This goes to any Italian citizen, including those who committed serious crimes in their home country.”
He also raised suspicions that Zambelli could be receiving logistical or political support in Italy, since even with blocked bank accounts, she was active on social networks and lived in freedom.
“The government is silent”
In addition to formal complaints, Bonelli used his social networks to intensify the charge. In an X -made publication (former Twitter), he said:

“The government is still silent about the Zambelli case. Why can a person sought and convicted in Brazil live quietly in Italy without being prey?”
The politicization of the case already causes repercussions inside and outside Italy. Bonelli has been pressuring the government to clearly position itself on eventual cooperation with Brazil and denies that its actions have ideological motivation.
Zambelli: Condemnation and Escape
Federal Deputy Carla Zambelli was (STF) to 10 years and 8 months in prison, for involvement in the case of fake arrest warrants inserted in the National Justice Council (CNJ) system with the help of hacker Walter Delgatti Neto.

Since then, Zambelli has passed the United States and has settled in Italy, using his double citizenship to try to avoid extradition. She is also investigated in two inquiries in the STF – the fake news and the digital militias, both related to scammer joints.
What’s next
With the arrest confirmed, the Italian authorities have up to 48 hours to make an initial decision on their legal situation. The Italian court may authorize extradition, liberation or house arrest.
The final decision on extradition will depend on the analysis of the formal request of Brazil and the interpretation of the legality of the extradition of an Italian citizen, which, as a rule, is prohibited by the country’s constitution -.
