SAO PAULO (Reuters)-Union attorney General Jorge Messias said in a statement published on Wednesday that the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will take “all appropriate measures” to safeguard Brazil’s sovereignty and its institutions, especially the Judiciary, after the United States imposed sanctions on Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court.

“We will not bend to illegitimate pressures, which try to tarnish the honor and reduce the greatness of our sovereign nation,” Messiah wrote in the note, in which he also manifests solidarity to Moraes and classifies the imposition of sanctions on him from “serious and unacceptable attack on our country’s sovereignty.”
