President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) told ministers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the government that the sanctions imposed by the United States on Minister Alexandre de Moraes are not just an individual attack, but an affront to Brazil’s sovereignty. The statement was released by the newspaper The globe.
The speech took place during a meeting at the Planalto Palace on Wednesday night (30), attended by the president of the Supreme Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, the dean Gilmar Mendes, Minister Cristiano Zanin, Union Attorney General Jorge Messias, Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.
Lula demonstrated indignation and determined the Attorney General of the Union (AGU) to elaborate opinions on the appropriate legal measures.

The AGU has already started its studies and should present a legal diagnosis in a new hearing with government and court representatives.
Negotiation limits
The president stressed that Brazil is open to dialogue with the US on economic issues, including previously imposed tariffs, but stressed that it does not accept interference in judiciary or questions to national institutions: “What concerns sovereignty, the STF and the country’s internal issues is not negotiated.”
It is expected that the STF ministers are institutionally manifested about the episode in the reopening of the Court’s work, scheduled for Friday (1st).
