The MP-SP (São Paulo Public Prosecution Service) opened an investigation to investigate the possible misuse of Corinthians corporate credit cards during the management of former presidents Andrés Sanchez (2018 to 2020) and Duilio Monteiro Alves (2021 to 2023).
The procedure was instituted last Tuesday (29) by prosecutor Cássio Roberto Conseino, who intends to hear the two former leaders on August 6.
For the same date, he is also foreseen by video conferencing, with the club’s interim president, Osmar Stabile, Vice President Armando Mendonça and the Chairman of the Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior.
The investigation began after complaints made by fans, based on credit card invoices released by the “@prmalaoficial” profile on social network X. Andrés Sanchez confirmed the authenticity of one of the documents and said he reimbursed the club for improper spending.
Last week, GE.com announced that Corinthians resources were also used for personal expenses during the management of Duilio Monteiro Alves.
Sought by SheetAndrés said he will defend himself: “I was investigated by the Federal Police and the prosecutor in every way, and never found anything. I confused the credit card and I will defend myself for the error.”
Duilio said he sees as “timely and healthy news about the opening of investigation by the prosecutor.”
“It is noteworthy that I was the first to ask for access to the documents to provide clarification, as well as for the appropriate investigations and liability. I filed with representations to be determined both in the Corinthians Deliberative Council via Oficio, and through the presentation of criminal news at the Drade Police Station (Police Station for Sports Intolerance offenses),” he added.
In a statement, Corinthians reported that “he received with satisfaction the news that the Public Prosecution Service has established Criminal Investigatory Procedure (PIC) to investigate the misuse of corporate credit cards during previous administrations.”
“Any initiative that seeks to elucidate any irregularities and protect the club’s assets will have full support from the Executive Board. Transparency and liability are non -negotiable commitments from the current management,” the statement adds.
Three days after the testimonials marked by the MP, the club members will vote, on August 9, the request for impediment of Augusto Melo, remote president. He is a defendant on suspicion of criminal association, money laundering and theft in the sponsorship contract with the Better company Vaidebet – ancuse he denies.
