The mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), criticized the sanctions imposed by the US government on Brazil. “As a sovereign country we cannot support any kind of sanction by foreign nations addressed to members of any power constituted by the Republic. This is valid for all parliamentarians, members of the executive and ministers of the higher courts.”

He also stated that the “Chamber of Deputies will always be a space of dialogue and balance in the defense of institutionality and Brazil, especially in challenging times.”

PT leader in the House, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), issued a note on behalf of the bench.
According to the text, “the 50% rate officialized by the executive signature is a political-economic measure of aggression to our national sovereignty. Without dialogue, without negotiation, without diplomacy and no legitimate basis in trade scale between the two countries.”

Farias classified the new fare as an unacceptable blackmail “to force the country to amnesty scammers and traitors of the homeland.”

He also charged the revocation of Eduardo Bolsonaro’s mandate. “We filed several requests for cassation and precautionary removal from Eduardo Bolsonaro’s mandate on the Ethics Council, pending analysis at the Board of Directors, for the performance of the parliamentarian abroad against national interests.” And reaffirmed the request for Minister Alexandre de Moraes to prevent Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro from performing any public function.

PL leader Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ) attributed the 50% rate to errors of President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva. “Lula tried to transform a diplomatic error into political narrative. But the facts are irrefutable: this 50% rate imposed by the United States is a direct result of the hostile and ideological posture adopted by the Brazilian government,” he said.

According to Sostenes, “the President of the Republic had numerous opportunities to protect the national economy with balance, diplomacy and responsibility. He preferred the confrontation. He chose the provocation.”

The PL leader also stated that the bench does not lead to accept that on the back of the Brazilian people the price of incompetence and government ideology.
