The government called on two federal judges to unleash the testimonies of witnesses before the jury, who has accused people of trafficking in people and Gislein Maxwell. The request came amid strong public interest and political pressure on the case.
Official request for document opening
In documents submitted late Tuesday night, federal prosecutors argued that the blocking of the materials is reasonable because of the “strong public interest” in the case. Estain, a banker who was found dead in 2019, and Maxwell, who is serving a 20 -year sentence, has been involved in public opinion on their alleged involvement in a sexual exploitation circuit.
President Trump had promised to disclose relevant documents if he was re -elected, accusing the Democrats of concealment. However, the Ministry of Justice recently said there was no “list of customers” of Estain, causing the anger of many Trump conservative supporters.
Political pressure from democrats
The minority leader in the Senate, Chuck Sumer, along with other Democrats, cited a one -century law to ask the Ministry of Justice to disclose documents, with the provision for the protection of victims. When asked if this includes the lawsuits of the jury, Summer replied: “This should be judged.”
It remains unclear whether the Ministry of Justice will respond to the deadline of August 15th. Prosecutors had filed an initial request on July 18 to eliminate old testimonies of witnesses, but Judges Richard Berman and Paul Englimer asked for additional legal arguments.
The value of deposits limited? – They may not give new information
According to prosecutors, the only witness before the January Corps in the Estain case was an FBI agent, while only a New York police officer and a New York police officer.
During Maxwell’s trial in 2021, public deposits of victims and associates were heard, and she has appealed to the US Supreme Court.
Trump supporters’ rage and older obstacles
The expulsion of the minutes was asked by Trump, through Justice Minister Pam Bodi, following the ministry’s announcement that Estain committed suicide and that there was no aggravating list of surnames.
Several conservative commentators, however, argue that there was a cover -up and believe that Estain was murdered.
The procedures of the jury are secret and their recordings remain sealed, with the exception of specific exceptions. Last week, a federal judge in Florida rejected a request for earlier cases in 2005 and 2007.
Earlier condemnation and attempt to cooperate
Estain was convicted in 2008 for promoting prostitution and received only 13 months, which has been widely criticized. Deputy Minister of Justice, Todd Blanche – Trump’s personal lawyer – recently met with Maxwell to find out if he intends to provide information on others involved. The content of the talks has not been disclosed.
