The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday A new 90 -day extension in the application of most tariffs for Mexicoafter maintaining a telephone conversation with the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

The application of tariffs to the rest of Mexican imports, protected by the Free Trade Agreement T-MEC, would therefore remain postponed for three months.

Trump justified his decisionjust one day that the deadline for the imposition of encumbrances to other commercial partners comedue to the complex commercial and border relationship between the United States and Mexico.

“The complexities of an agreement with Mexico are somewhat different from those of other countries due to the problems and advantages of the border,” he said.

According to the Republican, Mexico agreed to “immediately eliminate its numerous non -tariff commercial barriers”.

He also added that his team will continue to contact Mexico for the next 90 days “with the aim of signing a commercial agreement within that period, or even beyond.”

“Cooperation on the border will be maintained in all aspects of security, including drug control, distribution and illegal immigration to the United States,” he concluded.

During the call with Sheinbaum, Trump was accompanied by the vice president, JD Vance; of the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Besent; of the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; of Commerce, Howard Lutnick; and of the trade representative, Jamieson Greer, among other collaborators.
