US imposes sanctions on employees of the Palestinian Authority and the PLO

The United States Department is imposing sanctions on AP (Palestinian Authority) and PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) authorities, accusing them of undermining commitments to peace in the region.

The sanctions, announced in a statement on Thursday (31), would deny visas to the US to authorities-which were not identified.

The announcement was made while US special envoy Steve Witkoff is in Israel, and while diplomatic negotiations at Qatar for a ceasefire are paralyzed.

According to the note, the US State Department and the PLO “are not fulfilling their commitments” under certain laws.

They stated that non -compliance includes “taking steps to internationalize their conflict with Israel, as through the TPI (International Criminal Court) and the CIJ (International Court of Justice)”.

In November 2024, Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. CIJ is investigating if Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The US State Department also pointed out that PLO and AP were “starting and supporting actions in international organizations that undermine and contradict previous commitments in support of resolutions 242 and 338 of the Security Council.”

The agency specified that both organizations remain “supported terrorism, including incitement and glorification of violence (especially in textbooks), and providing payments and benefits in support of terrorism to Palestinian terrorists and their families.”

“It is in our national security interest to impose consequences and blame PLO and AP for not fulfilling their commitments and undermine the prospects of peace,” said the text.
