The measures imposed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) continue to generate strong repercussions in public opinion. Powerful survey released on Wednesday (30) shows that 40% of voters consider the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes to ban Bolsonaro from using social networks.

Another 36% evaluate the measure as “right” in a technical tie scenario within the margin of error, which is two percentage points. Already 25% did not know how to give their opinion.

The survey was conducted between July 26 and 28, 2025 and interviewed 2,500 people in 182 municipalities of all Brazilian states.

Moraes’s decision, made on July 18, determined not only the blockade of Bolsonaro’s social networks, but also, in addition to the use of electronic anklet and the night home collection.

On the 21st, the minister stressed that the former president cannot use interviews, broadcasts or any type of digital-direct or indirect-at risk of immediate pre-trial detention.

In practice, measures make Bolsonaro’s presence unfeasible in public interviews or political acts with digital repercussion. Since then, the former president has avoided press statements.

International sanction and Bolsonarist reaction

The theme gained international contours after US President Donald Trump, – a legal instrument used to punish foreign authorities accused of human rights violations.

In the decree signed on July 30, Trump states that Moraes “used his position to authorize preventive arbitrary arrests and suppress freedom of expression.” The State Department had already revoked the Minister’s visas and their families days earlier.

The measure was celebrated by Bolsonaro’s allies, who intensified criticism of Moraes’s performance in the Supreme Court and began to use the sanction as an argument to delegitimize the ongoing processes against the former president.
