Smithsonian reviews exposure and removes direct reference to Donald Trump, after signing executive order that requires the removal of contents considered improper, divisive or anti -American ideology from the museum.
The National Museum of American History, part of the prestigious Smithsonian Institute, recently removed an explicit reference to former President Donald Trump in an exhibition dedicated to impeachment processes in the United States.
The decision is part of a broader process of content review, which began after White House pressuresaccording to.
The institution confirmed, in a statement, that the exhibition will be updated in the future to include all presidential impeachments, and explained that, in September 2021, a temporary label was placed on Donald J. Trump’s dismissal processes, with the aim of contextualizing recent events. However, this label remained until July 2025, when it was finally removed.
The same temporary label also included information on the impeachments of Andrew Johnson (1868) e Bill Clinton (1998), as well as about Richard Nixonwhich renounced in 1974 before the case against it was formally started. According to the post, the current exhibition now indicates that “Only three presidents seriously faced the possibility of dismissal.”
The museum’s spokesman stated that after the content revision, it was decided to restore exposure to the original 2008 format. The decision arises in a context of growing concern for possible political interference at Smithsonian’s work, which, although receiving funding from the US Congress, maintains editorial autonomy.

During his first term (2017–2021), Donald Trump became the First US President to be the target of two impeachment processes. The first, related to a Request to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter; and the second, following the attack on the capitol on January 6, 2021, starring Trump’s supporters. Nevertheless, like the other targeted presidents, Trump was acquitted on both occasions by the Senate.
