US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday that raises commercial tariffs to several countries, with Canada suffering the highest impact on having its rate increased from 25% to 35%.

According to the International Analyst of CNN Lourival Sant’Anna, the measure generated negative reactions in the New York markets, which ended falling.

Mexico got an additional deadline for negotiations after statements by Trump and Claudia Sheinbaum.

The Mexican leader classified the situation as “very good” and said she will continue to seek a long -term agreement based on dialogue.

Challenges in global negotiations

The task of redesigning worldwide rates has been more complex than expected by the American administration.

Of the 111 days of negotiations, only nine agreements were closed, and only two were effectively signed. Countries such as India, Canada e Taiwanimportant US business partners still face impasses.

According to Lourival, the agreement with China, the second largest economic power worldwide, which expires on August 12, must have its deadline extended, as indicated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Judicial questions

Tariff measures face contestations in American courts. A court of appeal questioned the presidential authority to apply the fees, especially under the justification of the Law of Special Economic Powers.

Democratic senators also plan to contest the use of this legislation in Congress, particularly in relation to the Brazilian case, which received an additional 40%tariff.

The current scenario has generated significant challenges for companies, which need to adapt their production and export strategies constantly. Some companies have chosen to use mechanisms such as Foreign Trade Zones or adjust their boarding schedules to minimize the impact of new tariffs.
