Brazil registered 9,803 fire outbreaks in July 2025, a 56.4% drop over the same period last year, when 22,478 such occurrences were recorded.
The Cerrado concentrates the largest portion of the fire outbreaks in July, with 5,303 – or 54.10%. The data are from the system of the (National Institute for Space Research).
Maranhão is the state with the largest number of burning in July, with 1,548 foci registered. It is followed by Tocantins (1,375) and Mato Grosso (1,017).
The 6 Brazilian biomes recorded the incidence of fire. The Amazon had the 2nd largest number, with 2,183 outbreaks (22.3% of the total).
From January 1st to July 31, 2025, the country has 29,080 fire outbreaks.
1st semester
Brazil registered, in the 1st semester of 2025, compared to the same period of 2024. The country had, from January 1 to June 30 this year, 19,277 such occurrences. There were 35,938 in the first 6 months of last year.
In 2024, Brazil faced, in addition to the discharge of the fire focuses, one, with the worst drought in 75 years, according to the Chico Mendes Conservation and Biodiversity Institute).
In the 1st semester of 2025, the most affected biome was the cerrado, with 8,854 fire outbreaks (45.9% of the total). Following are: Amazon (5,169), Atlantic Forest (2,619), Caatinga (2,126), Pampa (388) and Pantanal (86).
The state with the largest number of fire outbreaks in the 1st semester of 2025 was Mato Grosso, with 3,538 occurrences of the type, equivalent to 18.4% of the total. Then are Tocantins (2,623), Bahia (1,992) and Maranhão (1,946).
