The Regional Electoral Court of Roraima ordered on Thursday (31) the suspension on an injunction of investigations regarding the alleged involvement of the president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Samir Xaud, in an electoral scheme in the state.
Xaud was the target of the Federal Police operation on Wednesday (30). The inclusion of his name was motivated by an audio in which he is mentioned by one of the investigated.
Judge Jésus Nascimento, rapporteur of the case, determined that the calculation be interrupted until the merits of the request for habeas corpus submitted by the Xaud lawyers.
According to the magistrate, the elements presented so far are insufficient to justify the inclusion of Xaud as a target of investigation.
“I know where I came from, I know who I am and kept tranquility in recent days, despite the injustice committed and the serious negative exposure of my image. I will continue working with focus, faith and honesty for Brazilian football,” said Samir Xad, through a statement from the CBF.
Judge Ângelo Augusto Mendes, from the 5th Roraima Electoral Zone, authorized PF searches at Xaud addresses in the state and CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, which took place on Wednesday.
He was based on audio obtained by the Federal Police of a conversation in which Renildo Lima, candidate for councilor, tells his wife, federal deputy Helena of Asatur (MDB-RR), who would get votes for them.
The audio says: “Now we are stronger, thank God, because Helena and I was careful to put in the political superintendencies that have already been tested at the ballot box and well voted. For example, Samir [Xaud] There was 5,000 votes, so his request, at least 500 he can. “
According to Mendes, police understood that the message reveals that Xaud was strategically appointed to party direction and used to capture votes for the benefit of the group.
The conclusion was taken, according to the judge, because Renildo’s phrase suggests that his nominations would be reversed in votes for allied candidates.
The attitude, points out the decision, indicate possible use of civil service for electoral favoritism, conduct that constitutes abuse of political power and illicit capture of suffrage.
In his decision, Judge Nascimento states that Xaud was only quoted, without any binding to alleged offenses, and the maintenance of the investigation can lead to the exposure of information regarding him without ballast in evidence gathered in the inquiry, “causing him damage to difficult reparation.”
The State Prosecutor’s Office had already been contrary to the determinations requested by the PF against Xaud because it did not find concrete or individualized evidence of its binding on the alleged electoral scheme.
The Federal Police investigation began after the seizure of R $ 500 thousand, in September 2024, on the eve of the municipal elections. The value was found in Renildo’s underwear during the campaign.
In all, ten search and seizure warrants were determined in the states of Roraima and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the judicial block of more than $ 10 million in the accounts of the investigated.
