The city of Tavira is once again the epicenter of the celebration of the Mediterranean diet, between September 4 and 7, becoming a stage of culture, flavors and traditions by the Gilão River. The initiative, promoted by the municipality of Tavira, invites the local community and visitors to dive into an event that combines authenticity, diversity and Mediterranean identity.
In an official note, the municipality stresses that the Mediterranean diet fair is a regional, national and international reference event that celebrates the immaterial cultural heritage of humanity, recognized by UNESCO.

The organization of the fair results from several months of work together with an organizing committee composed of public and private entities, which share the mission of valuing and preserving this millennial lifestyle.
As a representative community of Portugal in the registration of the Mediterranean diet on the UNESCO list, Tavira reaffirms her commitment to promoting this way of life that goes far beyond food.
As the municipality points out, the Mediterranean diet “represents a balanced and sustainable lifestyle”, centered on values such as seasonality, social coexistence, traditional production methods, intergenerational transmission of knowledge and respect for nature. This approach is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is pointed out as a following model to face contemporary challenges.
A diverse and intergenerational programming
The event will feature about 150 exhibitors dedicated to handicrafts, agri -food and gastronomy products, and 50 institutional stands for associations, museums, schools, universities and cultural and environmental projects. There will also be gastronomic demonstrations promoted by the In Loco Association, in partnership with the Faro and Vila Real de Santo António Hospitality Schools, as well as workshops, heritage visits, conferences, street animation, physical activities and the traditional march of the Mediterranean diet, dynamized with the support of IPDJ.
The cultural and musical aspect will be secured by seven stages scattered through the emblematic places of Tavira – from the Praça da República to the castle, passing through the Garden of Bandstand, former Puket, Largo de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Church of Mercy and Praça da Conviviaality.

The Conviviality Square, in Galeria Palace Park, will be the central space of the gastronomic experience, with four restaurants – two Portuguese, one Italian and a Moroccan – and special menus in 13 local restaurants.
Preservation of heritage and editorial programming
