The homicides were up 15.5% in the first half of this year in the city of São Paulo, compared to the same period last year, according to data released this Thursday, 31, by the Secretariat of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP). There were 268 victims of this type of crime from January to June, compared to 232 in the first six months of 2024.

  • It is the largest number of victims for the semester since 2021, when there were 318 people murdered;
  • At the same time, there were up 3.8% in theft and 3.2% in rapes registered in the capital;
  • Already the thefts fell 14.1%, also decreased by murders (robberies followed by death);
  • The scenario is similar to what is seen in the state, which had high minors of murders and theft.

Last month alone, homicides registered in the capital grew 60%. There were 56 cases, compared to 35 in the same month last year.

Sought to comment on discharge, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) management states that “the fight against crimes against life is a priority of the Public Security Secretariat, which maintains the SP Life Program to monitor occurrences and develop coping strategies, including the reinforcement of policing in areas with greater criminal incidence”.

“This work also covers the fight against property crimes with lethal potential, such as theft, through thorough investigations to identify and arrest the receivers, who finance these criminal practices,” says the folder, commanded by Guilherme Derrite.

The secretary states that, as a result of the efforts of security forces, the state had the smallest numbers of murder and thefts to the semester since the beginning of the historical series, which began in 2001. It also points out that police productivity has increased (below).
