The Roraima Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RR) decided to suspend investigations involving the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud, by granting Habeas Corpus on Thursday in favor of the leader.
Investigations are suspended until the final trial of the process. Xaud was one of the targets of Operation Caixa Preta, triggered by the Federal Police last Wednesday to investigate electoral crimes. Ten search and seizure warrants were fulfilled in Roraima and Rio de Janeiro, one of them at the headquarters of the CBF.
In his decision, Judge Jésus Nascimento maintained that there are no concrete elements that connect the CBF president to the practice of electoral crimes.

“In the case under analysis, there is, in summary cognition, the presence of elements that show the plausibility of the right invoked, notably when analyzing the probative set presented in these records, as there were no demonstrated concrete elements of authorship and criminal materiality capable of associating the patient’s participation in the practice of electoral crime,” said the judge.
Responsible for the habeas corpus request, Xaud’s defense, led by lawyer Rafael de Alencar Carneiro, argued that the top hat suffered “serious illegal embarrassment” due to the search and seizure at the CBF headquarters.
Xaud was being investigated for being linked to MDB Deputy Helena Lima and her husband Renildo Lima, pointed out as central figures in a possible voting crime scheme in Roraima, according to the Federal Police investigation.

Xaud is affiliated to the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), even Helena’s party. In 2022, he ran for a federal deputy for the acronym, with the support of former Senator Romero Jucá. He had 4,816 votes and did not elected. Ended as the first alternate of the Emedebista coalition. Earlier, in 2018, he tried a state deputy vacancy for the PV, also to no avail.
The president of the CBF was accused, according to the PF, of association with the scheme based on audio statements sent by Renildo to a candidate for councilman, in which Samir is cited as part of the group’s political core.
“Now we are stronger, thank God, because Helena and I was careful to put in the political superintendencies that have already been tested at the polls and well voted, for example, Samir had 5000 votes, so his request, at least 500 he can,” says Renildo in the audio.

Xaud spoke through a note sent by the CBF. “I know where I came from, I know who I am and kept tranquility in recent days, despite the injustice committed and the serious negative exposure of my image. I will continue working with focus, faith and honesty for Brazilian football,” he said.
