Jader Filho, Minister of Cities and Brother of the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, said that the government will find a solution to abusive prices in the city
The Minister of Cities, (MDB), said on Friday (1st.ago.2025) that Belém will be the headquarters of COP30 despite the criticism of the prices offered by the city’s hotels, considered abusive. In an interview at the Planalto Palace, he, who is the brother of the governor of Pará, (MDB), said that the government will find a solution to the impasse.
“I don’t believe there is any possibility [de mudar a sede da COP30]. I think President Lula, when he chose Belém as the COP30 headquarters, he had an intention, the intention to show the world the reality of an Amazonian city ”he said.
According to him, the Amazon is a recurring theme at the UN Climate Conferences (United Nations) and, therefore, there is relevance to bring the event to the region.
Belém, however, faces an impasse related to the city’s hotel shop. First there were few rooms available, but the current problem is prices practiced and valued as abusive by the COP organization and UN countries.
“I believe this issue of hotels, whether through the state government or through the federal government, we will find a solution related to this and the World Cup will be in Belém in November of this year.”these.
COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago said on Thursday (31.Jul) that countries officially asked for the conference to be held in Belém. The reason is the prices of daily hotels in the capital of Para.
“Countries have actually expressed public to say that the price of hotel price is a concern. Representatives of regions asked to get the COP from Belém”these.
The statement was given in DA (United Nations Climate Change Organization). The meeting brought together representatives of the Climate Convention, the Federal Governments and the State of Pará, in addition to the bodies responsible for the organization of the conference.
The diplomat said that while in other editions of COP the hotels charged twice or triple the usual value in Belém, the daily rates are up to 10 times above normal. He pointed out that Brazilian law does not allow to impose limits on daily prices and what remains is dialogue with the hotel chain.
