O Santos is charging Botafogo a debt regarding installments overdue for Transfers from defender Jair and goalkeeper John. According to information from UOL Esporte and GE, the debt amount exceeds R $ 14 million.
The São Paulo club turned on the alert sign because of the recent movements of both in the international market: Jair was negotiated with England’s Nottingham Forest, and John received a proposal from the Premier League West Ham.
The pending amount includes 700 thousand euros (about R $ 4.4 million) related to the purchase of John and another 1.5 million euros (R $ 9.6 million) for the transfer of Jair, which has already been presented as reinforcement of the English club.
The charge occurs at a delicate time for fish, which faces financial restrictions and depends on negotiations to maintain the market.
According to GE, Botafogo acknowledges that the deadline for payment expired last Thursday (31), but disputes the total amount requested by the São Paulo team. The Rio club states that there is an understanding between Botafogo, Santos and Atlético-MG to hit the debts in a cross between the parties involved.

Botafogo proposes agreement
Within this possible agreement between the three clubs, Atletico-MG, which has debts with Botafogo for the hiring of Junior Santos, also enters the negotiation. At the same time, Santos is charged by the Rooster due to the purchase of midfielder Patrick. With this, the three clubs would be in dealings to zero the values reciprocally.
In this equation, the final balance would leave Botafogo with a residual value of US $ 300 thousand (about R $ 1.6 million) to be paid directly to Santos. The board of the Rio team is only awaiting the formal signatures of the three clubs to make the financial compensation with the club of São Paulo.
Meanwhile, Santos evaluates legal alternatives if the deal does not advance. Among the options is the possibility of resorting to the CBF National Chamber of Dispute Resolution (CNRD), in order to judicialize the collection and seek a formal outcome through the entity.
How does Botafogo’s debt impact Santos finances?
The value in dispute is considered relevant to Santos, who lives with budget limitations. Any appeal entry is seen as essential to maintaining minimally balanced finances and supporting club operations in the transfer market.
The difficulty in raising resources has directly influenced the performance of fish in hiring. Recently, the club was only able to advance with reinforcements such as Mayke and Igor Vinicius through contractual terminations with Palmeiras and São Paulo, respectively, taking advantage of market opportunities at no transfer costs.
