With the resumption of work for the second semester at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) on Friday (1st), Minister Alexandre de Moraes spoke for the first time about the Sanction of the United States against him.
The session was marked by speeches of solidarity to Moraes by the ministers, the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, and the Minister of AGU (Attorney General of the Union), Jorge Messias, who represented the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

“Coward and treacherous organization”
Moraes began his speech by saying that to submit the operation of the Supreme Court to the sieve of a foreign state.
“We have seen the actions of several Brazilians being prosecuted by the PGR or investigated by the PF. We are verifying various intentional and aware conduct of a true criminal organization that, never seen, acts in a cowardly and treacherous manner to submit the functioning of the STF to the scrutiny of a foreign state,” he said.
Last Wednesday (30), the United States government applied the magnitsky law against the Brazilian magistrate. American authorities accused Moraes of conducting a “witch hunt”, practicing censorship and violating human rights.
In a statement justifying the law enforcement, Scott Bessent, US Treasury Secretary, said the minister “assumed the responsibility of being a judge and jury in a hunting for illegal witches against US citizens and companies.”
“Betrayal of the Fatherland”
Moraes made criticism of people who are intermediating negotiations with foreign governments against Brazil. The minister did not name nominally the licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who has been in the United States since March and is investigated for acting from there against the Brazilian judiciary.
“PseudoPatriots are at large and hidden outside the national territory,” he said.
The magistrate also spoke of a decision formalized by the US last Wednesday (30).
“Betrayal of the Fatherland […] As if glory had in betrayal, assuming the authorship of true intermediation with the foreign government to impose economic measures against the country itself, resulting in the taxation of 50%, “said the minister.
“Spurious and illegal aggressions against Brazilian authorities, its purpose is a serious economic crisis in Brazil, which to disgust these Brazilians will not occur,” he added.

Moraes compared the performance of defendants and Brazilians who are instigating attacks on public authorities
“These conduct of this criminal organization characterizes clear and express executory acts of betrayal to Brazil,” he said.
The magistrate stated that
“They think they are dealing with their ‘laia’ people. They think they are also dealing with militiamen. But they are not. They are dealing with ministers of the Supreme Court. This criminal organization is mistaken by expecting the continuity of this clumsy to somehow to generate a cowardly surrender of the constituted powers.
I will “ignore sanctions”
At the end of his speech, Alexandre Moraes said he will and follow his work in the Supreme Court.
“This rapporteur will ignore the sanctions applied to him and continue working as he has been doing, both in plenary and first class,” he said.
According to the minister, judgment of the four nuclei of the criminal action that investigates the attempted coup d’état will happen later this semester.
“This Court will continue to carry out its constitutional mission and, in this second semester, will make the trial and the conclusions of the four nuclei of the important criminal actions related to the attempted coup d’état of January 8, 2023,” he said.
“The actions will proceed. The STF procedural rite will not advance, will not be delayed. The STF procedural rite will ignore the sanctions practiced. This rapporteur will ignore the sanctions that have been applied and remain worked as it has been doing,” he said.
