The vase begoniaswith their loved leaves and bright flowers, they are among the most loved plants for balconies and terraces. Not only are they decorative, but also rather easy to manage, as long as you take into account a crucial factor: exposure to light. Just make mistakes corner, and flowering is drastically reduced. Still, there is no unique rule. It all depends on the variety, the season and on a often neglected detail: the microclimate. Many wonder why, despite all the care, the begons stop flourishing. In reality, it is often just a question of wrong exposure. Observing the plant, understanding its needs and adapting the position can completely change the result. A small movement, sometimes, is worth more than a thousand fertilizers. And it should not be forgotten that even humidity and ventilation affect more than you think.

It is not necessary to be expert gardeners. Just observe a detail: how the Begonias behave in the first weeks. Do they seem weak? Maybe they receive too much direct light. Grow elongated? Then they receive too little. Already from here we understand how much the position count.

Where to put the begonies in pot for continuous flowering

In general, the begons prefer filtered light and sheltered environments. They do not like the direct sun in the hottest hours, especially in summer, when the leaves risk burning. However, the absolute darkness is their enemy: without light, the plant survives but does not bloom. A balcony exposed to the east is perfect: it receives the morning sun, more delicate and less aggressive. Even a position to the west can be fine, as long as it is protected by a tent or a higher plant. The important thing is to avoid exposure to the south in the height of summer, unless you can shield the light with a tent or a shady network.

Those who have only windows addressed to the north are not excluded from cultivation: just place the beonies near the glass, perhaps on a raised shelf, to guarantee any good indirect lighting.

The most suitable varieties and tricks to position them

Some varieties of begonia are more tolerant than others, but not all of them behave in the same way. Their ability to flourish for a long time also depends on the type of exposure and the conditions of the pot. For this, it is useful to know which Begonie adapt better to the cultivation in pot. Some resist well in the shade, others ask for more diffused light. Some bloom continuously, others surprise with spectacular leaves.

Here then is a selection of the most suitable varieties for those who want visible and constant results:

  • Begonia semperflorens: The most common, loves half shadow and blooms from May to October.
  • Begonia rex: grown more for foliage, but appreciates wet environments and soft light.
  • Begonia Tuberosa: with large colorful flowers, perfect for vases hanging in bright but not sunny areas.

A simple trick is to rotate the vase every week, to stimulate homogeneous growth and prevent the inclination of the plant towards the light source. If the Begonia is placed on an internal windowsill, attention to the drafts and thermal changes: cold currents can arrest their flowering for weeks.

No less important, the vaso same. It must be well drained, because the begons hate stagnation. Excess water is among the first causes of radical rot. Better to choose terracotta containers, which help perspiration, especially if the environment is humid.

Environmental factors that influence the flowering of the begons

The environment around the vase also has its influence. Begonias thrive with moderate humidity, to be maintained with light nebulizations (but never on flowers), and temperatures between 18 ° C and 24 ° C. They cannot stand the direct wind, so better place them near walls or railings, in a repaired point. The ideal soil is light, well ventilated and rich in organic substance.

During the hottest months, it is better to move the vases to a slightly shaded area in the afternoon, to avoid heat strokes. And if the leaves begin to disclose or crumple, is there probably something to review: too much light or little water? Just a small move to see improvements immediately.

Finally, a small care often underestimated: do not change position too often. Begonie are sensitive to sudden movements. Patience is needed: once the ideal point has been found, better not to touch them anymore.

To really get the best from these plants, just learn to observe them.
