Holidays at the seaside - how to prepare for holiday escapades while respecting nature?

Summer by the sea is blissful laziness, walking on the beach and evening admiring the sunsets. However, even during the holidays, we should remember about our surroundings. Care for nature does not require great sacrifices – it starts with small decisions that we make every day. Sometimes a moment of reflection is enough, a bit of mindfulness and a desire to do something good to leave an environmentally friendly trail. WWF Blue Patrol has been taking care of the safety of Baltic nature for years. Their mission is to protect seals and porpoises, care for the breeding of the collar, as well as regular monitoring of the coast and reacting quickly to emerging threats. Education for them is as important as field activities – volunteers share knowledge with tourists and local communities, while building sensitivity to the needs of wild residents of the Baltic.

The Baltic Sea is struggling with eutrophication – excessive fertilization of water, which leads to cyanobacteria and dead zones. This is a serious threat to sea life and the whole ecosystem. That is why the protection of coastal nature is so important – both in water and on land. The Lidl Polska commercial network has established a strategic, three -year partnership with the WWF Polska Foundation to support the protection of biodiversity and water resources in Poland. As part of cooperation, the company supports the Blue Patrol WWF and intensifies educational activities addressed to clients and suppliers. Cooperation with Lidl Polska allows the WWF Polska Foundation to develop a blue patrol – from volunteer training, through interventions, production and assembly of educational boards on the beaches, to the educational campaigns that the network leads in its stores, on the website, as well as on social media. Thanks to joint commitment, even more people learn how to use the richness of Baltic nature wisely.

Rest with respect for coastal nature – here are some rules

  1. Do not smash animals. Do not approach seals and bird nests. Watch them from afar (about 30 meters), preferably by binoculars. When you see a seal or find bird breeding, call the WWF blue patrol (tel. 795 536 009.
  2. Do not go to the dunes. It is a natural shield that protects the coast against storm waves and a house for many species. Entrance threatens not only a fine, but also permanent damage to nature.
  3. In nature reserves, only move on the designated routes – thanks to this you do not destroy plants and you do not scare animals.
  4. Do not take the dog to the reserve. Even a calm dog can cause stress and frighten birds or other wild animals. Check before where you can walk with your pet.
  5. Leave the beach as clean as you found it – it’s a small gesture that makes a big difference.
  6. Do not enter the beach with motor vehicles. Cars, quads or mopeds not only destroy the beach ecosystem and generate noise, but can also destroy the sowing sockets in sand and chick death.
  7. Choose quiet forms of relaxation. The noise of scooters and motorboats harms sea mammals, including Morpox – the only vouchers of the Baltic.

The Lidl Polska Partnership Lidl Polska and WWF Polska Foundation also encourages responsible rest on the Baltic Sea. In 2023, as part of the intraocular woodening project in the commune of Grodzisk Wielkopolski, 300 trees were planted, supporting the development of biological diversity, inhibiting the spread of insects harmful to crops, as well as limiting the effects of climate change, including erosion and drought. At the same time, podcasts “Naturally with WWF” and “Good topic!” Were created, promoting knowledge about nature and sustainable development. In earlier years, Lidl Polska, together with WWF, implemented, among others The “Planet Friendly Diet” campaign, which reached about 10 million recipients, encouraging conscious nutrition elections and limiting meat consumption.
