The Workers Party () approved on Friday (1) a letter in which he asks the president to suspend diplomatic and commercial relations with the government of. At the opening of the 17th PT Meeting, on Friday night, the Senator and current PT’s national president, Humberto Costa, read the letter of support to the Palestinian people and reaffirmed the PT’s historical position in defense of the cause.
“It is not possible to look at the deaths of children in Israel bombing for over 20 months, and now by hunger and diseases produced by Israeli blockade. They are children, a third of the 55,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza and the West Bank,” the letter describes. “The government of Benjamin Netanyahu is accused of ‘war crimes’ to former Israeli-first and primers. Crimes now include disarmed and hungry civilians who seek humanitarian aid and receive bullets and bombs.”
The document points out that, on June 5, President Lula stated that, in the region, it is not a war, but “a premeditated genocide.” “However, there is still in the world who buy, sell and subsidize the Israel Industrial-Military Complex, as if it were normal,” says the text, adding that the militancy present at the PT’s national meeting “declares its unrestricted solidarity to the Palestinian people.”
“According to the historical commitments of the PT that we all claim, we endorse the National Human Rights Council of 6 June 2025, and ask President Lula to intervene in favor of the suspension of diplomatic and commercial relations with the government of Netanyahu,” the document reinforces.
With the presence of about 1,000 delegates from Brazil, the 17th PT National Meeting began yesterday and should continue until tomorrow, with petist leaders present to discuss the directions of the party and the challenges of the next period. In addition to Humberto Costa, the opening of the event was president -elect, Edinho Silva, and the leaders Romênio Pereira, Monica Valente, Valter Pomar and Misiara, as well as the Palestinian ambassador in Brazil, Ibrahim Alzeben.
