The ambulance service was lost in 2016 because it expired before the municipal managers renew the corresponding specifications. The urgencies of the Majariegos were since then under the 112 service, so it was quite common for an ambulance to take half an hour since it was requested. However, thanks to an initiative of the PSOE and with the support of the rest of the municipal groups, the Municipal Emergency Service was activated again this past February, after making the Consistory with an equipped ambulance and assuming health care the Civil Protection technicians, some of them from the Samur. , with which lives have been saved after abuses or respiratory stops, and that have been paid throughout the municipal corporation and congratulated by the neighbors.
But, suddenly, this week prior to August holidays, the PP has requested a new specifications to launch a new contract of a second ambulance, “without informing either civil protection or the opposition of how it affects the current service,” denounces the socialist councilor David R. Cabrera, who has precipitated an emergency motion this Thursday to denounce that the popular want to privatize a public service in the last full service of the course. He himself had asked for information in previous plenarys because it was something that the popular had included in the budgets, which they have in Majadahonda led by, National Profession Police.
In the PP they do not deny their intentions and speak of “a mixed model.” They argue first that “they wanted to improve and complement that service” and then, with which it was already budgeted. In 700,000 euros per year, according to the popular, with the hiring of two emergency technicians. And they raise it to “almost one million”, the socialists. The Majadahonda City Council has a surplus of 23 million euros.
The Sermaj-Civil Protection Municipal Service created in February 2025, already covers the emergency 12 hours with the basic life support ambulance purchased in 2024 and with a template of 11 troops: eight fixed and three interim. Workers now fear being relegated to minor tasks.
“If what they want is to improve and complete the service to work 24/7,” insists Cabrera, “can strengthen civil protection, as other municipalities in the area have done, and hire seven other people, which would have an annual cost of 385,000 euros, half,” he estimates. The function of that second ambulance, beyond that “could also cover the nights”, and show a clear resistance to increase chapter 1 of budgets, personnel.
Cabrera, who has requested in its emergency motion that the subcontracting of another ambulance is dismissed to prevail the hiring of personnel, also recalls the need to improve the current conditions in which the service has to provide the service the Civil Protection technicians: “They have no specific agreement, they are forced to clean the ambulance after the services, to change in an unplayed area and to wash their uniforms at home”.
