Brazilian goalkeeper Jeferson Merli, 27, drowned on Saturday (2) on a river beach of Portugal, where he operated.
Merli was an athlete of Sports Caldelas, which operates in the district divisions of the region of Braga, in the north of the country.
According to the Portuguese press, the player was on vacation on Pereiró river beach, in Peneda-Gerês National Park, also in the north of Portugal.
Caldelas, in a note of regret published on Instagram, highlighted the dedication on the pitch, the player’s friendship and professionalism, as well as manifest solidarity with Merli’s family and friends, who had recently renewed his contract with the institution.
According to the portal O Gol, which monitors players’ transfers, Merli acted in 2019 for União-MS, before going to Europe. On the continent, he played in Spain and other clubs in Portugal before reaching Caldelas.
