Cármen Lúcia defends sovereignty at Flip – 08/02/2025 – Power

The minister, from the (Supreme Federal Court), said on Saturday (2) that the sovereignty of Brazil “is not debatable”.

During a table at Casa Sesc, in the parallel program of the Paraty International Literary Party (Flip), Carmen Lúcia was asked by a person in the audience about the pressures of the Big Techs to-to go to the sanctions of the United States government to STF ministers and to retaliation against the former president ().

“Sovereignty is not debatable, it is in the Brazilian Constitution,” said the STF minister. “The Supreme Court is responsible for custody of the Constitution when it is hit by any citizen. It is responsible for keeping the Constitution,” he said, in reference to the action of the STF that attempts to reverse the result of the election of 2022 and should go to trial later this year.

Carmen Lúcia participated in a table on artificial intelligence and copyright, mediating by lawyer and former Federal Deputy Gabriel Chalita.

The STF minister, too, was asked, in a joke tone, by a member of the audience would go – but did not answer.

In response to the questioning of setbacks in the conquest of fundamental rights, the STF minister said it was necessary to resist. “The right to live in democracy is the first of rights. We cannot have setbacks that make us go back to moments of authoritarianism and autocracy we had. I lived it. I know what it is not being able to say what you think,” he said.
