The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (), determined that the Attorney General of the Union (AGU) include in the request for extradition of the deputy (PL-SP) to the government of Italy the criminal action in which she is defendant by armed persecution during the elections of 2022. The deputy was filmed a gun and pointing to a man on the street in the Jardins neighborhood, in São Paulo, on the eve of the second round. The Attorney General’s Office has denounced the parliamentarian, and the Supreme Court has already formed a majority to condemn it to five years and three months in prison for illegal possession of a weapon and illegal embarrassment.
The trial had been suspended in March by a request for a view of the minister, who released the case last Friday (1st). The resumption is scheduled for August 15. Zambelli was arrested on Tuesday (29), after almost two months on the run. She is the subject of another case in the Supreme Court and has been sentenced to ten years in prison for participation in the invasion of the National Council of Justice () systems in 2022. After the conviction, she left Brazil and started to appear on Interpol’s red list.
The parliamentarian is detained in a prison in the region of Rome and had a custody hearing on Friday (1), in which he claimed to be innocent, said he suffered political persecution and stated that he does not intend to return to Brazil. The defense tries to avoid extradition and intends to take the case of the CNJ to the Italian court, claiming that Zambelli, who has Italian citizenship, has the right to be tried in the country. The extradition process is expected to take at least one year to be completed.
