The position has been unoccupied for almost a year and the President talks about the need to strengthen the aviation and the strategic plan for 20 years ahead.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greenable on Sunday on the telegram platform announced that he appointed General of the Anatolia Kryvonožka as the new top commander of the Ukrainian Air Force. This position has been unoccupied for almost a year, reports TASR based on reports of Ukrainian media.
Since the end of August last year, the Kryonozko has been the representative of the aviation. Since 2015, the Air Force Headquarters led the center, previously served in the 114th tactical air brigade.
Reaction to shoot down the aircraft
Many interpreted the dismissal of his predecessor Oleščuk’s Mistory by Greeny in response to shooting down the F-16 aircraft in defense against the air attack of the Russian forces. The President officially justified this step with the need to strengthen the abilities of aviation and concerns about the lives and security of the staff.
On this occasion, Greenya said that the Ukrainian air forces are developing a strategy for a period of 20 years, the details of which are confidential. However, he noted that this year French Mirage planes were already deployed in Ukraine and the Ukrainian fleet of F-16 fighters has grown.
“The main goal of transformation of the Ukrainian aviation is to ensure that our country has a strong and modern air component in the armed forces – one that is de facto part of NATO forces and is among the strongest in Europe,” said Greeny.
