Hamas published on Saturday (2.ago.2025) a video in which the Israeli hostage Evyatar David, 24, appears digging what he believes is his own tomb during the captivity in the Gaza Strip. The images show David debilitated and handling tools to dig the floor.

In the recording, dated July 27, David says he has been without eating for several days. He reports being in a situation “Very, very difficult, which already lasts months” and adds: “This is not fiction, it is real […] It has no food. They give me what they get ”.

The publication was made on Telegram channels linked to the extremist group. In the accompanying message, the al-qassam brigades, Hamas’s armed arm, write the following: “This is the tomb in which I may be buried”. Attribute the sentence to the hostage. The video has been used by Hamas as a form of pressure on the Israeli government in negotiations for a ceasefire.

The video also shows that David received only lentils and beans. He points to a calendar in which he records the days he ate and the days when he was fasting. At a certain stretch, a person out of framing gives him a can of food. “This can is for 2 days. All this can is for 2 days, so I don’t die”says.

The hostage also goes directly to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud, right): “I was completely abandoned by you, my Prime Minister, who should care about me and all the prisoners”.

He shared excerpts from the recording on the X (former Twitter) and marked press vehicle profiles.

“Evyatar David – just 24 years old, one of the 50 hosts – is starving, being tortured and forced to dig his own pit in Hamas’s Palestinian captivity. Let’s see who will be on his first page tomorrow”wrote the ministry.
