Nai Delhi justifies her attitude with “time -proven” relationships with Moscow and the need to cover his energy needs.

India wants to continue buying oil from Russia despite the threats of US President Donald Trump, who is threatened with new duties. AP reported on Sunday night.

According to AP, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that India’s relationship with Russia is “stable and verified by time” and should not be perceived through the prism of the third country. The government spokesman in Delhi said on Friday that the attitude of India to ensure its energy needs is governed by the availability of oil in the markets and global circumstances.

Trump is threatened with clami

This opinion of India is a reaction to President Trump’s warning that it intends to introduce a 25 % duty on goods from India and additional import tax on the grounds of Russian oil purchases India.

This threat came at a time when the US President is increasingly criticizing Russia for not reaching an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine, and threatened with new economic sanctions unless it is progress in this matter.

Russian oil dominates

India bought 68,000 oil barrels a day in January 2022, but by June of the same year, imports increased to 1.12 million barrels a day. Daily import has reached the peak in May 2023 (2.15 million barrels a day) and has been fluctuating since then.

Delivery from Russia over a period of time accounted for almost 40 percent of Indian imports, making Moscow the largest oil supplier for India, PTI said, referring to KPler data deals with data analysis.

Daily oil consumption in India is estimated at approximately 5.5 million barrels, of which almost 88 percent are covered by import.

In the past, India bought most of its oil from the Middle East, but after the invasion of the Russian army on Ukraine in February 2022, India began to use cheaper Russian oil, which the West avoids for sanctions imposed on Moscow.
