The terrorist group released on Saturday (2) a video of the 22 -year -old Israeli hostage Evyatar David, where he appears digging what he fears to be his own grave in a tunnel at. Visibly weakened, David says he has been without eating for days and reports extreme conditions of hunger and thirst. The video is part of Hamas’s strategy to press the government of negotiations for the release of kidnappers during the October 7, 2023 attack, which left 1,219 dead, according to Israeli authorities. David was captured that day during the New Music Festival in Re’im in the south of the country.

In the record, the hostage speaks in a weak voice and displays a makeshift calendar where he marks the days when he would have received food – with several dates without any annotation. He states that he feeds only lentils and beans and shows a can of food, supposedly delivered by a kidnapper. “This can is for two days, so I don’t die,” he says. In one stretch, he appeals to the Prime Minister: “I was completely abandoned by you.”

Evyatar’s family authorized the release of the video to the Israeli press. The hostage’s sister, Yaelah David, lamented the situation on social networks: “It was like a million punches in my heart. Hamas is not much worse. They are hungry for hostages and Gaza’s own population.” In February, David had already appeared next to another hostage, Guy Gilboa Dalal, begging for his release.

This Saturday, the head of the Israeli Army Staff, General Eyal Zamir, said the fighting in the Gaza Strip will continue “without a respite” until the hostages are released. According to the army, 49 people kidnapped in October remain in captivity, of which 27 have been declared dead.

Israel’s military offensive has already caused more than 60,000 deaths in Gaza, according to the Local Health, controlled by Hamas. The numbers are considered reliable by the UN. The Special Envoy of the United States to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, was also in Tel Aviv this Saturday, where he met with family members in the so -called Praça dos Hostilos. Protests demanding an agreement and the end of the war remains frequent in place.
