A group of deputies of the National Council (NR) SR for The CIS has already submitted an announced amendment to the parliament, according to which it should be reduced by half the salary of the President of the Slovak Republic. They suggest that the change be effective from 2026. They argue that the proposal cannot be perceived “as a manifestation of the seriousness or dignity of the function of the Head of State”.
On the contrary, the CIS described it as a step towards a fairer and more appropriate system of remuneration of the highest constitutional officials. It is also justified by the economic situation. The salary reduction could also apply to the current head of Petr Pellegrini. The draft amendment to the Act on the salary of some constitutional officials speaks of the need to review the amount of the President’s salary. In the explanatory memorandum, the CIS deputies write that the position of the head of state is predominantly ceremonial and symbolic.
“The exercise of the majority of its powers is conditioned by the counter -signation of the Prime Minister or the relevant member of the government, with The President is not responsible for the daily management of the executive apparatus of the state, the management of the ministry or the implementation of the government’s policy statement, ” Written by the petitioners, including the head of the CIS Andrej Danko.
Danko even published graphics, showing Pellegrini’s salary amount compared to other presidents in Europe. According to her, the Slovak head of state should come a monthly EUR 18,000, While Emmanuel Macron (France) for € 14,500, Petr Pavel (Czech Republic) 14 850 €, Tamás Sulyok (Hungary) 9 300 EUR or the outgoing Andrzej Duda (Poland) almost 6,000 euros.
The last one, however, was a good mistake. Duda does not light the Polish flag, but Indonesian/Monaco. Photo can be found in the gallery! This kiks gave him a proper “eat” the commentators. “Duda – the first President Monaco,” wrote Martin, to whom he joined Sam. “Learn the flags because Duda is certainly not the President of Indonesia,” he added.
Various satirical sites have also joined Danko’s account. “If we can have Prime Minister Yugoslavia, why Duda could not be President of Indonesia,” said the profile “While Danko was mistaken for the flag of Poland, but interesting numbers … Note: we also confuse it, because the amount they reported is a maximum of the annual salary.”
At present, the President’s salary is four times the salary of a deputy of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, while the salary of the Prime Minister is one a half times the salary of a deputy, increased by a special functional surcharge. The CIS proposes to reduce the salary of the head of state to twice the salary of the deputy. According to the CIS, the law should reflect more appropriately to reflect the nature and scope of the exercise of the President’s constitutional powers, “as well as its actual position in the constitutional system of the Slovak Republic”.
The CIS also responds to the socio-economic situation where Slovakia is facing pressure on the consolidation of public finances, reducing public debt and ensuring fiscal stability. “In such a situation, it is advisable for constitutional officials to be responsible not only for the effective functioning of state institutions, but also for the way in which it is handled with public funds,” added to MPs.
The nationalists presented their proposal two weeks ago. The Office of the President of the Slovak Republic then pointed out that Pellegrini will not respond to Danka’s initiatives And expects him rather than a member of the coalition “work for people and solving problems of Slovakia”.
