Minister Gilmar Mendes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) determined that the Attorney General of the Union (AGU) includes the request for extradition of Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) to the Government of Italy the criminal action in which the parliamentarian is defendant by armed persecution in the 2022 elections.
Sentenced to ten years in prison for participation in the Hacker attack on the National Council of Justice (CNJ) system in 2022, Zambelli must be convicted in yet another case. The case had been suspended since March by request from Minister Nunes Marques, but the Supreme Court has already formed a majority for the conviction. On Friday, 1, Nunes Marques released the resumption of the trial.
The action still ongoing was opened after the deputy was filmed by drawing a gun and appointed to a man in the middle of the street in Sao Paulo. Initially, she claimed that the man would have assaulted her, which was denied by the investigators.

Following the conviction in the CNJ case, Zambelli decided to escape the country. His name was included in Interpol’s red list and Brazilian authorities started working for his arrest. After almost two months on the run, she was arrested in Italy last Tuesday, 29.
The deputy will have her case analyzed by the Italian court. The parliamentarian underwent a custody hearing on Friday, 1, and will continue to be arrested while awaiting the decision on the request for extradition. During the hearing, she said she was innocent, claimed to be the target of political persecution and said she did not intend to return to Brazil.
Zambelli’s defense expressed the desire to have the case of the CNJ judged again in Italy, a country of which she has citizenship, asking for the rejection of extradition. The process is expected to be finalized within at least one year.
