Internet fever that combines the fruit with white brigadeiro made the demand of state producers increase
The arrival of Strawberry of Love, a new fashion on the internet, turbocharged the sales of rural producers in the state of São Paulo. The fruit has been high in production in regions such as Campinas since last year, with a progress of 14.2% from 2023 to 2024, according to the IEA (Institute of Agricultural Economics), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply.
Producers in the region report great demand after the popularization of the candy. Farmer João Vicente Cordeiro, from Jarinu, Campinas region, found in this adaptation of the apple of love for strawberry an opportunity to boost fruit production.
“The strawberry of love is new to me. There are some orders of selected strawberries. It helps a little in the distribution of production. The strawberry is a long -time plant, it is easier.”said the farmer who has been working with fruit since 1989.
Last year, in Campinas, 3,200 tons of strawberry were produced. The region only loses to Sorocaba, with 4,700 tons, among those that produced the most strawberry in 2024.
Strawberry of Love arrives in the field
Those who make the strawberry of love seek the best, most big and strawberry uniforms directly from the rural producer to make the recipe. With this, João Vicente has been having a greater job when selecting the fruits for commercialization.
In addition, farmers report that they are harvesting strawberries faster because the demand from traders has increased.
“With the strawberry of love, the producers found a new temporary market niche. Strawberry was more selected”said André Barreto, extensionist of the Board of Integrated Technical Assistance of Jarinu, Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply.
