The festivities that are held with horses practically in all the municipalities of the island of Menorca during the summer became tragedy this Sunday. A 27 -year -old tourist has lost his finger a hand after a horse was torn from a bite during the celebrations held in the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran. The young woman had to be urgently transferred to the Mateu Orfila de Maó hospital, where she remains admitted to the plant.
As confirmed by sanitary sources, the events occurred this Sunday afternoon during one of the big days the festivities of San Cristòfol, in Es Migjorn Gran, at the time of the calls jaleosin which dozens of horses participate in the celebrations making a varied range of movements. Specifically, the episode occurred when the last cashierthe rider dressed in the traditional clothes of the party, passed through the square. One of the 34 horses that were in the area set out to make a movement to put on both rear legs when the tourist bordant.
The horse started the finger to the woman taking advantage of the fact that people agglutinated in the square, including the victim, raised their hands to pull animals, as usually done in this type of celebrations. The tourist was urgently evacuated to the Mateu Orfila de Maó hospital where she had to undergo surgical intervention to try to rebuild the affected hand, and where she remains stable in the plant of the Menorquín Hospital.
Holidays with horses are popular throughout the island of Menorca and every year incidents are recorded by tramples or blows by horses against people who approach too much and do not respect the safety distance. The authorities recommend visitors to pay attention and clear the way for horses and their companions, departing and respecting distances to avoid accidents. It is also recommended not to access festive enclosures under the influence of alcohol, or wear vessels or bottles tied to the body.
