The vice president and minister of development, industry, commerce and services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), coordinates on Monday (4) a meeting with members of the government’s economic and commercial team.
The meeting is one of the preparations for the completion of the contingency plan to protect the national industry, the agro and the use of 50% rates imposed by USA that come into force this week.
The meeting with Alckmin is part of the government’s effort to structure an articulated response to the tariff, which reaches strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy. The debate takes place in the MDIC building (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services), from 14h.
MDIC Executive Secretary Márcio Elias Rosa participates in the meeting; the Secretary of Industrial Development, Uallace Moreira; the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Tatiana Prazeres; APEXBRASIL President Jorge Viana; in addition to members of Camex and the Government Diplomatic Advisory.

The package of measures should be published in the coming days, according to Finance Minister Fernando Haddad. The proposal is being calibrated based on the Branca House announcement last Wednesday (30) and will be sent to the Civil House.
“Part of our plan is expected to be appreciated in the coming days, to protect Brazilian industry, to jobs in Brazil. To Agro also, when applicable,” Haddad said last week.
In parallel to internal actions, the government also bets on the diplomatic front. Haddad is due to meet virtually in the coming days with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in an attempt to maintain open dialogue, depolitimate tensions and prepare terrain for eventual conversation between Presidents Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Donald Trump.
