Government establishes guidelines for integral education

Public and private schools have 180 days to adapt to the rules published this Monday (4.ago)

The government has published the National Guidelines for Integral Education in Basic Education, which includes early childhood education, elementary school and high school. The measures were published in the (Official Gazette of the Union) this Monday (4.ago.2025). This is a (PDF – 259 kb).

The guidelines apply to public and private schools, with whole or mixed journeys. They establish a minimum workload of 7 hours daily on the school day or 35 hours per week. They were signed by the president of the Basic Education Chamber of the National Council of Education, Maria do Pilar Lacerda Almeida e Silva.

Education systems have 180 days to review and update their norms of integral education in accordance with the determinations of (Ministry of Education). Schools without regulations for integral education have the same deadline to prepare the document.

Each school will need to determine the proper number of teachers, synchronize their curriculum with MEC criteria, and ensure access to educational equity. This includes transportation strategies, food and ESA (Specialized Educational Service).

Another measure established by the Ministry is the systematized dissemination of the results of evaluations made within the education network. It is also mandatory to monitor students’ school attendance, as well as the implementation of measures to prevent school dropout.

MEC’s completed 2 years on July 31. The country registered 7,951,010 full -time enrollments in 2024. Represented 23% of all enrollment of the year. In 2022, 18.2% of general enrollment was integral.

The purpose of the initiative is to foster full -time enrollment in schools, in order to serve students in a situation of greater socioeconomic vulnerability and offers technical and financial assistance

The program is managed by the SEB (Basic Education Secretariat) and funded by the FNDE (National Fund for the Development of Education). Adhesion is voluntary and performed through SIMEC (Integrated Monitoring, Execution and Control).
