The most popular pests in the orchard are starlings. They also work with other birds, which is why they can strip in a few hours. So let’s put a mesh on bushes and fruit trees constituting a physical barrier for these uninvited guests. We present the most important information about plant protection.
In the orchard, we can most often notice starlings, which attack bushes and fruit trees with herds. They are intelligent and agile, which is why they easily reach even partially covered crops. Their delicacy is cherries, cherries, blueberries, berries and currants.
We can also meet scythes and flower beds who love soft fruit. I am talking about strawberries, raspberries, wild strawberries or grapes. These birds do not work in groups, but they are still persistent. They eat fruit from the ground, often not paying attention to the presence of people.
Less numerous, but very voracious birds are mounts eating fruit with grapes. We observe their increased activity in autumn. Arona, rowan and even apples were liked.

We cannot put a protective mesh for immature fruit. Then we will limit their access to light and air circulation, which will result in more exposed to fungal diseases. We do it only when the crops begin to soften and take color. After all, in this form they are the biggest delicacy for starlings.
It is important to properly put on these covers. By too loose mesh, the birds will get into the fruit anyway. In turn, founded for tight, it will break the shoots. So how do you properly protect the bushes and fruit trees?
At the beginning it is worth choosing the right cover. It’s best to buy a mesh with small mesh measuring 2×2 cm. Through larger holes, pests will slide their beak or get tangled, which can be deadly for them.
When we have the right material, we stretch it and spread it in the bush so that it adheres to it. Sometimes it is necessary to create a structure from sticks or brackets in the shape of a tent.
The edges of the cover are rolled and attached to the ground, pots or structures using garden pins, string or clamps. If we do not do it, the birds will want to reach crops and in such a situation they get tangled in the material.
The protective mesh should be monitored in the morning and evening. Thanks to this, we can quickly stretch it in the event of loosening, fix any damage or release birds that could get tangled.
Remember to remove the covers immediately after harvesting. Thanks to this, the plants will regenerate freely.
