Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas on Monday at an extraordinary government meeting confirmed that he was resigning and on the same day he will resign to the hands of President Gitanas Naused. At the same time, according to the Constitution, the entire cabinet will end, TASR informs by referring to Lithuanian television LRT.

However, the Minister Paluckas said that they would temporarily remain in the positions, until their further fate is decisive by the new Prime Minister. “The nineteen government has achieved a lot and I believe we have nothing to be ashamed of, ” evaluated the work of his government.

Nauseda will have to adopt the government’s resignation and at the same time its members will entrust them to temporarily remain in the positions until the new Cabinet is appointed. From that moment on, a 15-day period will start, during which the President must propose a Parliament for the Prime Minister. He will be expected to be from Paluckas’ Social Democratic Party, which has the strongest parliamentary club in Parliament. The presidency of the party will decide on Wednesday’s nominee for the Prime Minister.

Paluckas announced his intention to resign on Thursday. He responded to the declaration of the Coalition Party of the Democrats Union “for Lithuania” and its boss, President of Parliament Saulius Skvernelis, that if he remains at the head of the government, this party will leave the coalition. Nauséda gave Paluckas two weeks ago to respond to public concern related to his business investigation, or considered his stay in office.

Paluckas took a vacation, but the events, according to LRT, took a quick gradient last week. The pressure was extended last Thursday after a raid of financial crime investigation services (FNTT) in Dankor belonging to the Paluckas brother -in -law. According to the news server 15min.lt, these are suspicions of misuse of the European Union funds.

The money was to go to support the development of infrastructure for electric vehicles in Drukiai. In February, Dankora announced public procurement for the supply of battery systems with two inverters. The only candidate in the tender and finally the winner was Garnis, in which the Prime Minister is a 49 % owner.

Otherwise, Garnis received a loan of EUR 200,000 from the State Development Bank, while investigators suspect that these funds were also misused. This loan was already received by the company at a time when Paluckas was Prime Minister. The Special Investigation Service (STT) also focuses on other past business activities. Paluckas itself rejects all allegations.
