On the most sultry days, humidity in the bedroom can become unbearable. And often, without realizing it, a mistake is made that worsens the situation instead of improving it.

When it comes to night comfort in summerfans, air conditioners, perhaps light cotton sheets immediately come to mind. All right, for heaven’s sake. But there is a very simple, almost instinctive gesture, which many make as soon as they open their eyes and which, without wanting it, transforms the room into a small tropical greenhouse.
One of those habits that seem harmless, even “healthy”, and instead become a boomerang. Nobody notices, yet it makes a huge difference. Very little is enough to change course: observing what happens in the early minutes of the morning can be the key. Yes, because right there, when you still get asleep, you decide if the room will remain livable or if it will be transformed into a wet oven. It is worth dwelling for a moment on those automatic gestures: that’s where everything begins.
Open the windows at the wrong time worsens humidity in the bedroom
Open the windows just wake up “to change air” looks like a good idea. It is part of those tips that have always been handed down. But if the air is already warm and saturated with humidity, the result is counterproductive: all that steam enters direct in the room. We tend to believe that making raising always does well. But in the heaviest days, the opposite is often true. If there are 30 degrees at 8 in the morning, open the window is like inviting the heat to get comfortable on the pillow.
Better to open them very early, when the air is still breathable, or wait late evening. And be careful: you don’t need to keep them wide open for half an hour. Five minutes are enough with two open windows in opposite rooms to create a small air flow. Just enough time to redo the bed, in short. Crush and curtains also play a crucial role. Leaving them lowered in the hot hours helps a lot to keep the heat out. And less warmth means less humidity that stagnates. It looks trivial, but it’s a trick that works.
Other common errors that increase humidity (and can be easily avoided)
Apart from the moment of the windows, there are many small inatments that, put together, worsen the situation. Sometimes it is a matter of habit, others of simple laziness. But the result does not change: you sleep badly and you wake up as if you had passed the night in a greenhouse.
Here are some widespread mistakes that, without knowing it, increase humidity:
- Roll out the laundry in the bedroom: maybe it’s the freer or comfortable room, but that wet laundry releases liters of water in the air.
- Use the humidifier even in summer: if there is no dry air (and generally it is not there), you just risk worsening.
- Forget to ventilate the mattress: sweating at night is normal, but if the bed remains wet, after a while it becomes a sponge.
- Keep the room closed all day: Even if you want to keep the heat out and the light, it still serves a replacement of air, perhaps at dawn or after sunset.
Another neglected detail? The fabrics. The synthetic fibers do not let them breathe, retain humidity and worsen the feeling of suffocation. Better the good old cotton or, even better, the linen: fresh, natural and much more breathable.
How to really reduce humidity in the bedroom
There are no miracles, just a little common sense and some precautions that can really make the difference. No magic formula, but small daily gestures placed one after the other.
Good portable dehumidifierfor example, can save the heaviest nights. Some models are silent, they consume little and can be set to activate only when humidity exceeds certain levels. In practice, they only work when needed.
But even without technology, there is something that can help. A coast of coarse salt In a corner of the room, for example, it works as a natural absorbent. It does not make miracles, but can remove that annoying feeling of “wet” air. Bicarbonate? The same, but it must be changed often.
Finally, keeping moisture under control is easier than you think: just a chamber hygrometerthose small tools that are found everywhere. So, you know immediately if the air is too humid and you can intervene without tending.
And in the end, everything is reduced to this: listen to the environment in which you live a little more.
Because very little is enough to transform the bedroom into a place to breathe, and sleep, it finally becomes a pleasure.
