The Algarve does not seem to give signs of slowing over its popularity among foreign tourists. August is synonymous with vacation for thousands of Portuguese and foreigners, with the Algarve being one of the most sought after regions for this purpose, being the most sought after city in Portugal in this region for English.
According to an analysis by Jetcost and sent to POSTALthe most sought after destinations by the Portuguese on the platform for August are identified.
Portugal is the third European destination most researched by tourists on the platform during August 2025, behind only Spain and Italy. The factors that contribute to this preference include the climate, the beaches, the culture, the popular parties, the recognized cuisine, the good hotel infrastructures and more affordable prices.
Lisbon stands out as the most sought after destination in Portugal, occupying the first position in the preferences of Germans, Italians and Dutch. For Spanish, French and English, Lisbon comes in second.
The port is also among the most sought after cities, being the destination preferred by Spanish and French, the second most sought after by Germans, third by English and Italians and fourth by Dutch.
Algarve City Hallowed for August
In the Algarve, Faro stands out as the most requested city, being the favorite destination of English tourists, third between French, Germans and Dutch, fourth for the Italians and fifth for the Spaniards.
Regarding the Portuguese islands, Madeira is especially popular, occupying second place in the choices of Italian and Dutch tourists, third of the Spanish, and fourth of the French, English and German. Already Porto Santo is in fifth place in the preferences of the English, sixth between French and Italians, seventh for the Spanish, eighth for Germans and ninth to Dutch.
In the Azores, São Miguel is the most prominent island, being the fourth choice of Spanish tourists and the fifth to French, German, Italians and Dutch, while appearing in sixth position for the English. Terceira Island appears as the sixth preference of the Spanish and seventh among Dutch, French, English, Germans and Italians.
The islands of Pico, Faial, Flores, Santa Maria, Corvo, São Jorge and Graciosa are also part of tourist choices for the August holidays, reflecting the growing interest throughout the Azorean region.
