The EU is trying to significantly increase the efficiency of electrical appliances. In 2023, thanks to the regulation of products, every household saved an average of EUR 287. Now we’re going to focus on the dryers.

What is the difference between a politician and a dryer? One is still monotonous about something and the result is always the same. The second dries the linen. A little cheap joke, but brings me to a serious point. If we want to use safer and affordable energy and protect the climate, we must have more intelligent, cleaner and cheaper household appliances.
Savings in hundreds of euros per year
This is precisely the aim of EU rules in the field of ecodesign: to significantly increase the efficiency of TVs, refrigerators and washing machines to save billions in energy accounts. For example, in 2023, thanks to the regulation of products, each household saved an average of EUR 287 on an energy account.
Now we’re going to focus on the dryers. Between 2020 and 2040, household dryers in the EU are expected to increase by 35 percent. By gradually removing the least effective products, we can reduce the expenditure on energy and carbon emissions in the coming years. So what does the EU do?
First of all, we try to make the energy labels more rational and understandable, so we go from the range of A +++ categories to A to G. As in school, the A -borne will be granted the best: in the case of dryers, this means the most powerful and energy efficient.
At the same time, we help consumers to buy the latest and most unreasonable technologies: therefore, only drum dryers based on heat pump technology will now be allowed on the market. Finally, the dryers will be easier to repair: Manufacturers will have to provide spare parts that consumers and repair shops will be able to get easier.
