Some 14,000 Romsilva employees – the Romanian state company responsible for the protection, preservation and development of public forests – run the risk of not receiving their salaries this month due to an unprecedented situation, as reported by the media .
The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzianu, explained that Romsilva does not have a board of directors or a general director and, therefore, does not have anyone to sign the payrolls of her employees.
Salaries should be signed by a general manager appointed by the Board of Directors, but Romsilva has not had such a thing for several months. The Minister of the Environment explained that the mandate of the current Board of Directors expired a few months ago. In addition, there is no general director, since it must be appointed by the Board of Directors.
“The problem in Romsilva is that we only have one board of directors, since it is no longer legal to appoint one because it was appointed before the legal term. You could simply not be appointed another interim board.
“And as we no longer have a general manager, in a few days, if a Board of Directors is not appointed and a general manager will not remain to sign the salaries of 14,000 employees. In one way or another, we have to resolve this matter. In one way or another, we have to make a decision on the Board of Directors. The law is very restrictive. He tells us: ‘If there is only one person, you have to appoint it,” said the minister.
