With almost 900,000 sleeping over in June, Albufeira asserted himself as the second most sought after tourist destination in Portugal, only surpassed by Lisbon. The data, released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on July 31, indicate that the county concentrated 11.1% of the total overnight in the country.
For the mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, “the results achieved prove the attractiveness of destination, and the ability of our industry to receive those who want to visit us.”

The mayor adds that “values are encouraging for what remains of the year,” stressing that the numbers reflect “the excellence and diversification of our hotel capacity” and confirm that “Albufeira has been increasingly assumed as tourism capital, with all the positive impacts that this entails for the local economy.”
The Algarve remains the main region of tourist destination, and concentrated about 30% of the total number of overnight overnight overnight over June. In this context, Albufeira leads at regional level, surpassing growing municipalities such as lakes and Portimão.

According to INE, the data now revealed confirm a growth trajectory in the tourist sector over the first half of 2025. Compared to the same period last year, the number of guests increased by 1.7%, the overnight stays grew 0.3%and total profits rose 5.5%.
For José Carlos Rolo, these results mirror a “paradigm alteration with regard to seasonality”.
The president of argues that “the results achieved are followed by the work that has been developed to streamline tourist activity during the low time, namely through the reception of reference sports events”.
