Never sit next to each other. They will not grow well

Mint is one of the most expansive plants in the garden. It grows through strong, underground rhizomes, quickly covering a large surface. Although very aromatic and valuable, it is a herb that is better to hold away from other plants.

Why avoid neighborhood?

Mint strongly competes with water and nutrients. Its intensive growth can effectively drown out, e.g. lemon balm, oregano or thyme. In addition, it secretes chemical compounds that can negatively affect the development of neighboring plants.

Recommendation: Greet mint in a separate pot or in the ground, limiting its growth with barriers.

Basil and ruta differ not only in appearance, but also in the chemical impact on the environment. Although both have insect deterrent properties, their coexistence is not advisable.

Why not together?

Ruta secretes compounds that can disturb the growth of basil and weaken its aroma. As a result, basil grows slower and becomes more susceptible to diseases.

Recommendation: plant these plants in a large distance from each other.

Although dill and coriander are often planted side by side because of the similarity of the leaves and the short vegetation period, in practice this combination rarely brings good results.

Why is this a problem?

The dill grows very quickly and spreads through Samośw. Its strong root system can limit the development of coriander, which needs more space and stable conditions for growth.

Recommendation: plant dill away from other annual herbs.

Rosemary is a herb from Mediterranean regions. He likes dry, permeable soils and sunny positions. Mint, however, prefers moisture and partial shade.

Why don’t they fit together?

Their soil and humidity needs are extremely different, which makes it difficult to provide them with optimal conditions in one bed or pot. One of the plants will always suffer at the expense of the other.

Recommendation: cultivate separately, according to their natural requirements.

Borago officinalis is a plant with a rapid growth rate and high demand for water and nutrients. Cocuding with sage may not bring the expected results.

Why is this improper connection?

Sage does not tolerate excess moisture and hates competition with nutrients. Planting her next to a lush growing cucumber weakens the development of both plants.

Although the stage and marjoram often go to the same group of kitchen spices, their upward needs are not consistent.

Where is the problem?

Estragon requires a more dry and airy position. Marjoram, on the other hand, likes heat and higher moisture. By planting them together, it is difficult to ensure optimal conditions for both.

Recommendation: separate in separate containers or beds.

Thyme grows perfectly in dry conditions, with a lot of sun and economical watering. Basil on the contrary – it needs warmth and regular moisture.

The effect of joint cultivation?

Either you water too rarely and the basil is unlawful, or water too often and thyme rotates. This combination requires difficult compromises that rarely work.

Although lemon balm and mint belong to the same botanical family (light), they are not good companions. Mint, as a highly expansive plant, quickly dominates the lemon balm.

Why?

It grows slower and is more sensitive to excessive density. In the vicinity of mint is often drowned out.

Recommendation: separate cultivation in separate pots or flower beds with a root barrier.

  • Choose herbs with similar soil and climate requirements.
  • Avoid connecting expansive and delicate plants.
  • Always check what chemical interactions occur between plants.
  • In case of doubt – use container or pot cultivation, which limits the effect of one plant on another.

A well -planned is a source of fresh, aromatic accessories for everyday kitchen. However, watch out what plants you plant next to you. The right company is more important here than one would expect.
