In the 136th episode of Infra in 1 minute, Pedro Rodrigues analyzes how the MP, which modernizes the ZPE regime (export processing zones), expands tax and regulatory incentives and includes requirements for the use of renewable energy, can repeat past errors.
For the expert, the obligation that new companies only use renewable energy contracted from new plants – following the principle of addiction – does not apply to Brazil. “Our matrix is already one of the cleaner in the world, with over 85% renewable generation. This rule disregards our reality and creates unnecessary barriers”says.
Rodrigues warns that the restriction may discourage investments in data centers, which require continuous and stable energy supply. “In the world, the choice is to combine firm sources, such as nuclear or gas, with renewables. Without adjustments, we risk losing competitiveness in this strategic market.”it says.
According to him, before any conversion to law, the MP needs to undergo a deep review to avoid distortions and attract investments based on technical criteria, not artificial subsidies.
