The Supreme Court of Brazil has decreed on Monday home arrest for the Brazilian former president Jair Bolsonaro for breaching the precautionary measures decreed by his alleged responsibility in the financing of a plot to hinder his cause by coup d’etat from the United States.
“Given the repeated breach of the previously imposed precautionary measures, I order the house arrest of Jair Messias Bolsonaro,” said Supreme Judge Alexandre de Moraes, in charge of the case, in statements collected by the Brazilian news portal UOL.
Police registered the house in Brasilia de Bolsonaro for their alleged responsibility in the financing of a plot in the United States to defend the application of tariffs and sanctions against authorities of the country, including the judges of the Supreme Court, whom Washington has revoked their visas.
The researchers argue that Bolsonaro has used up to two million reais (300,000 euros) to campaign through their son, Eduardo, in the United States since March, in favor of these sanctions, at a time when President Donald Trump has shown an unusual interest in his judicial situation.
Meanwhile, a couple of weeks ago, the Prosecutor’s Office requested in its final allegations in the trial for coup d’etat that Bolsonaro is convicted, so it could face prison sentences of up to 40 years, in addition to being disabled indefinitely to hold public office.
Bolsonaro and seven other people are part of the so -called central nucleus of the coup plot with which he intended to remain in power after the October 2022 elections. They are accused of criminal association, attempt to violate the rule of law, coup d’etat and damage to the heritage during the protests during the institutions on January 8, 2023.
