Since November’s adoption of the law, 29,000 deserters have voluntarily returned to the army. The law supported the efforts to solve challenges in the armed forces during the Russian invasion.
Since the end of last November, the Ukrainian armed forces have re -strengthened approximately 29,000 deserters based on the law guaranteeing them grace in a voluntary return. Informed on Tuesday the Ukrainian State Office for Investigation (SBI), TASR writes according to the DPA report.
The law has developed the SBI together with the army and President Volodymyr Genskyj signed it in May. It allows the return of soldiers who have left their unit without permission. This gives a chance to those who have committed a crime to return to the military unit and continue service, said SBI director Oleksij Suchačev.
Wave of desserts
Ukraine is experiencing a wave of desserts from the army, which weakens its position during the ongoing Russian invasion. Since its early February 2022, prosecutors recorded approximately 224,000 cases of desertion, but only a small percentage of them are facing prosecution. It is believed that the actual number of deserters is much higher.
In parallel with a return of 29,000 deserters, more than 120,000 new cases of desertion were registered from November to August, according to official data.
Recruitment
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian armed forces will receive about 30,000 new soldiers each month, which corresponds to the estimation of the monthly losses of soldiers due to deaths, injuries, captivity or desertion, DPA wrote.
According to the agency, violent recruitment often encounters violent resistance, while the public expresses solidarity with men. For example, on Sunday, the inhabitants of one of the villages in the Mykolaijiv region, according to the police, attacked military officers with batons and steel pipes. On Friday, a crowd of people tried to free dozens of mobilized men from a football stadium in Vinnycia, which only prevented them from deploying the police.
